GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG.
25th July, 1939.
My dear Gent,
I should be grateful if you could
let me have an indication of how the wind blows
regarding the proposal in my letter No.322 of
May 3rd regarding the future administration of
the port of Hong Kong. My hopes are rising that
my suggestion of a commission will be accepted
because I have heard nothing hitherto on the
matter and I should not be writing now were it
not that I not infrequently get inquiries on the
subject and I give that augury in reply. I quite
realise that a proposal like this wants a good deal
of consideration, and that these hectic days do not
leave sufficient time for that.
Yours sincerely,
aA
G. E. J. Gent, Esq., 0.B.E., D.S.O., M.C.,
Colonial office.
